Flutterphoto destination wedding photographers set off to Bangalore, India for the wedding of Sneha and Krishna, in August 2009, making this the furthest Flutterphoto has traveled for wedding photography; Theresa and Alejo intimately documented the ceremonies and participants of this Hindu wedding. Lasting 4 days and hosting almost 500 guests, this wedding has easily become their paramount.

The first day was dedicating to “Bride Making”. It started with a ceremonial transformation taking place at the bride’s parents home. Relatives performed the necessary rites for the bride. Afterwards, everyone was served lunch on a banana leaf, and based on Hindu tradition, used only their right hands to eat. Later that day, commenced the “Mehendi”, in which intricate patterns, using Henna dye, were tattooed on the bride’s hands, wrists, palms and feet. It took several hours to embellish the bride with this beautiful skin art that would last only days. This practice is done both for the sake of beauty as well as luck.

The second day kicked off at the Sri Radha Krishna Temple for the groom’s “Snathakam”. Flutterphoto international wedding photographers photographed the groom and his family participating while priests directed and performed rituals involving fire, smoke, fruit, flowers, chanting, and prayer. Later that evening, everyone gathered at the hotel’s banquet room for a formal party called the “Sangeet” This was a memorable night of music, dancing, and feasting. The bride, groom, bridal party, and family danced in various enchanting routines, just as you would see in a Bollywood film.

Upon arrival of the wedding day, Sneha was a stunning beauty adorned with flowers, fine silk, and golden jewelry. Alejo witnessed these bridal preparations at the bride’s parents home; meanwhile, Theresa was back at the hotel documenting the groom’s preparations. Palace Road buzzed with traffic as the Baraat brought Krishna in on a white horse and a crowd danced in the streets to the trumpeting and drums of a marching band. After the groom took his place on stage and began the ceremony, the bride made her grand entrance concealed by a yellow veil. Incense filled the air as the priests chanted and family blessed the couple. The ceremony continued for three hours as hundreds of guests looked on and later, stepped away to dine from a buffet.

On the following day, all communed, once again at the bride’s parents home, for the newlywed’s Satyanarayan Pooja. The family home was filled with people and several priests were there to perform the necessary prayers involving ritualistic offerings of food and flowers.

Theresa and Alejo were quickly welcomed into this cultured family with open minds and spirits. They gained complete trust and access necessary to get the storytelling photos of each day’s details, people, and ceremonies. “We worked barefoot, in traditional clothing. I wore an intricately woven kurta and Theresa was in a full silk sari. We roamed the temples and followed all the necessary traditions, we ate the most flavorful vegetarian dishes, and we became hypnotized and immersed in the beauty of India.”

The collection of Indian sweets was created by combining traditional techniques and flavours with aspects of modern, artisan chocolate making, producing a range of truly unique, irresistible bite sized confections.

Devnaa was launched by siblings Roopa and Jay Rawal. Their journey began at the family’s kitchen table with relatives and friends praising Roopa’s homemade Indian desserts, in particular the chocolate barfi (pronounced ber-fee, which is a modern twist on a traditional Indian sweet).

The two decided to make a go of it, but first needed to learn more. Jay travelled to India to research the best authentic sweets and Roopa to the ‘Slattery School of Excellence’ to learn about artisan chocolate.

Back together in London, they shared their experiences and ideas, and began development of an all new collection of sweets and desserts by combining the authentic Indian recipes with artisan chocolate techniques.

The results are getting rave reviews. Their products have won Gold Great Taste Awards two consecutive years — the most recent for their chai masala milk chocolate truffle which is made using their signature blend of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves and Belgian chocolate.

London-based Designer Fuses Modern Urban Style with British Tailoring

Having already established his name in London’s music scene, designer and stylist Saran Kohli debuted his musically inspired urban collection of bespoke menswear in New York City on August 26, 2010. Featured on MTV Europe and MTV Asia’s show, Style Guru, and written about in a number of British papers and magazines, the young designer’s line consists of a full-range of menswear including trousers, shirts, ties, hoodies and shoes. However, the Saran Kohli brand is most recognized for its distinctive style of jackets that can best be described as a fusion of impeccable English silhouettes with an urban vibe. The signature slim cuts are conceived in luxurious Italian fabrics of silk, wool, velvet and jacquard and seem to be favored most by musicians and actors. Artists who have been recently photographed in Saran Kohli’s line include Jay Sean, Fugitive, Mumzy Stranger, DJ Ironic, DJ Friction (Wu Tang, Drake), H Dhami (The Rishi Rich Project), Juggy D, Ameet Chana (Bend it Like Beckham), Bikram Singh, The Truth and Bobby Wonda, amongst others.

In 2009, Saran worked with Jay Sean to develop a personalized line for the singer, which also resulted in a collaborative photoshoot between the two artists.

The Launch included a fashion presentation that showcased the designer’s collection of a bespoke suits, vests, shoes and jackets. was well attended by a number of friends and supporters and included a red carpet with many well known names in the music and entertainment spheres. The guest list included Vidur Kapur, Manu Narayan, Brad Boles, Meera Gandhi, Jay Dabhi, Samrat Chakrabarti, Meetu Chilana, Purva Bedi, Vijay Iyer, Bikram Singh, The Kominas and Zerobridge amongst others in the fashion and media industries.

Saran says, “I think New York is one of the greatest cities in the world for fashion and music, and I always knew that my line would fit this city’s incredible vibe. I’m grateful that so many people came out to support my launch, and I’m looking forward to many new collaborations in the near future.”

The son of legendary South Asian designer Mani Kohli of Khubsoorat Collection, Saran has been involved in the fashion world since a very young age. Saran trained his eye for style while assisting the brand’s celebrity clientele including Bollywood actors, members of the English royal family, Middle Eastern royalty and international socialites. In 2008, he received his B.A (Hons) Graduate from London College of Fashion in Fashion Management and was quickly tapped by Japanese designer Michiko Koshino as a PR/Marketing assistant. Hugo Boss came next as he was headhunted for a position in sales and later promoted to Hugo Boss Red/ Black Collection Analyst. Saran later served as a Menswear Personal Stylist/Customer Relations for VIP clients of Banana Republic’s London flagship store.

Saran is also a well-respected dance choreographer and performer who formed the dance group “Snach” at the age of 17. Since then, Snach has been commissioned to perform all over the UK as well as in New York City and India, working with a number of well-respected musicians and featured in their music videos. Today, the designer continues his involvement with Snach choosing to work with the youth to promote urban dance culture.

The Saran Kohli Collection gathers inspiration from all aspects of the young designer’s life from music, to dance and his extensive global travels. The line is geared towards the man who prefers a distinctive, more personalized style that blends elements of global culture and music while remaining true to the principles of traditional English tailoring and cut.

Currently the line is being carried through Khubsoorat Collection’s retail stores in London, New York and New Jersey and is the featured menswear collection within the 25-year-old family brand. South Asian designer and sister, Geetanjali Singh is serving as the product line’s US Market Consulting Designer. Her work can be seen in upcoming episodes of USA Network’s Royal Pains.

Most recently, Saran has been commissioned to design all of the uniforms for London’s Bloomsbury Hotel, and the collection will be featured in the upcoming British action flick London Town (working title) directed by Michael De’Sioye, and set for release in summer 2011.
